Origin and history
Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours d'Orveau is a Catholic parish church located in the commune of Orveau, Essonne, dedicated to Notre-Dame de Bon Secours. It replaces a 12th century building, destroyed during the Hundred Years War, thus testifying to the historical upheavals of this period in the region.
The current building was rebuilt in the 16th century, perhaps reusing some architectural elements of the old church, such as capitals. This choice of reuse reflects a common practice at the time, aimed at preserving symbolic or artistic elements while modernizing structures.
Since October 19, 1965, the church has been listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. This protection preserves its architecture and history, while emphasizing its role in the religious and cultural heritage of Essonne and Île-de-France.
