Origin and history

Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Church is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Pinols, Haute-Loire, in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in 1859 under the direction of the departmental architect Normand, it embodies the religious architecture of the Second Empire, marked by a revival of historical styles, including neo-Gothic.

The church is distinguished by its liturgical textile heritage, carefully preserved. Among the notable pieces are a neogothic chasuble from the late 19th or early 20th century, as well as an ensemble composed of a chasuble, a stole and a corporal purse, inspired by 18th century meandering motifs. These elements illustrate the evolution of religious decorative arts between modern and contemporary times.

Other ornaments, such as a chasuble and a stole from the second half of the 19th century, or a veil of chalice and a violet chasuble with abâtardi motif, testify to the richness of local liturgical traditions. These objects, often made in specialized workshops, reflect both the craftsmanship and the varied stylistic influences that marked the Haute-Loire.

The building is part of a regional context where parish churches played a central role, both spiritual and community. At the time of its construction, the Haute-Loire, then integrated into the former Auvergne region, had a rural life organized around parishes, where places of worship also served as gathering points for parties and collective ceremonies.
