Origin and history
The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Immaculée-Conception is a Catholic religious building located in the heart of the village of Bouée, in the Loire-Atlantique. It is distinguished by its simple architecture, with a unique nave finished with a flat bedside and covered with a arch in a crib. A chapel and a sacristy, arranged opposite, form a false transept, adding a particular symmetry to the whole. The building houses several objects classified as historic monuments, although they are not detailed in available sources.
The building of the church is based on a primitive chapel, most probably erected in the 14th century, which today constitutes the sacristy. Two expansion campaigns followed, culminating in the completion of the building in 1606. These transformations reflect the evolution of the liturgical and demographic needs of the parish, although the sources do not specify the exact circumstances of this work.
The lack of details about the sponsors or craftsmen who participated in its construction limits the understanding of its social history. However, its architecture and evolution reflect a gradual adaptation, typical of rural churches in western France between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The protections granted to some of its movable objects also underline its local heritage importance.
