Church, including the closing wall of the cemetery: classification by decree of 9 December 1929

Origin and history

Notre-Dame de Cesseville Church is a Catholic building located in the commune of Cesseville, Normandy. Mainly dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, it presents an older choir dating back to the 12th century, as well as a sacristy added in the 17th century. Its architecture thus reflects several periods of construction, reflecting the evolution of styles and liturgical needs over the centuries.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 9 December 1929, the church also includes in its protection the fence wall of the adjacent cemetery. This classification underlines its heritage and architectural importance, while preserving a coherent set linked to its religious and community use. The precise location of the building in the department of Eure is attested by the Merimée bases and official sources.

The monument, owned by the commune of Cesseville, is part of a Normandy rural landscape marked by a rich religious history. Parish churches like Notre-Dame played a central role in village life, serving as a place of worship, gathering and collective memory. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the social and cultural dynamics of medieval and modern times in Normandy.
