Church (Box B 200): Order of 9 October 1979
Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Corribert is a religious building dating back to the 11th century, with major construction or modification phases in the 13th and 16th centuries. Located in the village of Corribert, in the department of Marne (Great East), it embodies almost a millennium of architectural and spiritual history. Its classification under the Historical Monuments by order of 9 October 1979 underlines its heritage value, in particular for its protected elements, referenced under cadastre B 200. The church property today belongs to the municipality of Corribert.
The location of the church, specified by the Merimée base under the address 5002 Rue de l'Église, Le Village 51270 Corribert, reflects its anchor in the heart of the village. Although the available sources (such as Monumentum) do not detail the stylistic specificities or the sponsors of its construction, its evolution over five centuries reflects the architectural and religious transformations of the Champagne-Ardenne region. The lack of data on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, etc.) limits the knowledge of its contemporary use, but its status as a listed monument guarantees its preservation.
The Insee code of the municipality (51174) and its attachment to the district of Châlons-en-Champagne place Corribert in a territory marked by a rural and wine-growing history. Medieval churches like Notre-Dame played a central role in community life: places of worship, gathering, and sometimes refuge. Their construction, often collective, reflected local resources and know-how, as well as the influence of religious orders or lords of the time. In Corribert, as elsewhere in the East, these buildings also symbolized stability in the face of conflicts or epidemics that marked the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
