Origin and history
The church Notre-Dame de Kerfot is a religious building located in the commune of Kerfot, Brittany. Built in the 16th century, it is a typical example of the Breton religious architecture of this period. Its bell tower, a remarkable architectural element, was inscribed as a Historical Monument by ministerial decree on 6 March 1925, thus highlighting its heritage value.
The location of the church, on the Place de la Mairie de Kerfot, is attested by the data of the Merimée database and GPS coordinates. Although the accuracy of this location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), it allows the monument to be located in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. The building belongs to the municipality and its current use (visit, rental, etc.) is not specified in the available sources.
The 16th century in Brittany was marked by a period of reconstruction and affirmation of identity after the unrest of the War of Succession of Brittany. Churches, like Kerfot, then play a central role in community life, serving as both a place of worship, a gathering and a symbol of local prosperity. Their architecture often reflects both Gothic and Renaissance influences, typical of this transitional era.
