Origin and history
The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Uhart-Cize is a religious monument located in the municipality of the same name. Although the available sources remain brief, its existence is attested from the 15th and 17th centuries, periods marked by architectural and artistic transformations in the cultural buildings of the region. Parish churches such as the Uhart-Cize church played a central role in the life of the rural communities of New Aquitaine.
They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for social and civic events. At that time, religious architecture often reflected local influences as well as broader stylistic developments, sometimes combining late Gothic elements and baroque additions, typical of the 17th century reshuffles.
