Church of Beaussiet including the vantals of the entrance gate (Box F 91): registration by decree of 16 December 1982
Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Beaussiet church, located in Mazerolles, in the Landes, is a historical monument built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It is distinguished by a structure mainly made of brick, a notable architectural characteristic for this period. The initial nave, simple and completed by a semicircular apse, precedes the addition of a large northern collateral, later enlarged by a fortified bell tower. This latter element reflects the defensive concerns of the time, while integrating religious characteristics.
The communication between the two un arched naves is done by two arches in the middle of the arch, a stylistic choice common in late Romanesque or early Gothic architecture. The north facade is protected by a porch covering its entire width, supported by round pillars that support the roof. The main entrance is marked by a carved wooden door, framed by an arch in the middle of a three-piece hanger, falling on columns decorated with capitals. These decorative details bear witness to craftsmanship and a desire to beautify, despite the overall simplicity of the building.
The church has been listed as a Historic Monument since December 16, 1982, a recognition that specifically includes the vantals of the entrance gate. This protection underscores the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its furniture. The precise location, although considered satisfactory (level 7/10), places the building at the approximate address of the 580 Impasse des Chênes, confirming its anchoring in the rural landscape of Mazerolles. The property of the municipality guarantees its preservation and its potential accessibility to the public.
