Origin and history
The Notre-Dame de Lammerville church, located in the Seine-Maritime department in Normandy, is a religious building dating back to the 12th century. Only the foundations of the bell tower remain of this medieval period, testifying to its seniority. The current ogival-style building combines tuff and sandstone elements with a flint base for the bell tower.
In the 16th century, the church was largely rebuilt, including a parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Purification and a seigneurial chapel to the Holy Name of Jesus. The materials of the old building, including the tuff, are reused for this reconstruction. The building is marked by a distinctive architecture, including a lantern tower separating the choir from the nave, as well as an octagonal arrow decorated with bell towers.
The church houses a remarkable organ, built between 1750 and 1760, belonging to Queen Marie Leczinska. This movable heritage adds a historical and artistic dimension to the building. In 1986, the church was listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. Restoration campaigns, particularly in the 1990s and 2019s, have preserved its structure, threatened by structural disorders and cracks.
The precise location of the church is attested in Lammerville, with an approximate address at 4 Rue du Moulin. The building, owned by the municipality, remains an emblematic place for the religious and architectural heritage of the region. Its inscription as a historical monument and restoration efforts underline its cultural importance and its anchor in local history.
