Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Lempzours, located in the eponymous village of New Aquitaine, dates from the 12th century. According to local tradition, it would have been the chapel of a nearby Templar Commandery. Its architecture is distinguished by three square spans, initially covered with cupolas on pendants, including the higher central one, which was visible from the outside before being masked by a four-paned roof. The first span lost its dome, replaced by a floor, while the original abside, probably semicircular, gave way to a square choir.
Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 2 June 1938, this church now belongs to the municipality of Lempzours. His history remains closely linked to the order of the Templars, although direct documentary evidence is lacking. The current structure reflects subsequent changes, such as the roof added to protect the central dome, probably during repairs. The site, identified via approximate GPS coordinates (2 Le Bourg, 24800 Lempzours), maintains a location deemed "a priori satisfactory" in heritage bases.
The protected elements are limited to the church itself, without mentioning movable objects or classified annexes. The Creative Commons license associated with a photograph of the monument (credit: Father Igor) bears witness to his heritage interest, while his official address in the Mérimée base confirms his anchoring in the Dordogne department, under the code Insee 24238. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation).
