Church: registration by decree of 21 December 1925

Origin and history

Notre-Dame de Monségur Church is a Catholic building located in the commune of Monségur, Gironde, New Aquitaine. Originally built in the 13th century, it has undergone major transformations over the centuries, especially in the 19th century. Today, only its apse retains traces of the original medieval construction. The church occupies a central square in the city, at the corner of the streets of the Church and the Victims-du-3-Août, near the Robert Darniche Square, historic and commercial heart of Monségur with its hall and arcades.

The building was listed as historic monuments by an order of December 21, 1925, recognizing its heritage value. This protection applies to a monument whose architectural history reflects stylistic evolutions and liturgical needs over centuries. Although the sources do not specify the exact reasons for the reshuffle, these reflect the constant adaptation of places of worship to successive periods, while preserving key elements such as the 13th century abside.

No information is available on original sponsors, architects or specific milestone events related to the church before the 19th century. Its inscription in 1925, however, underlines its importance in the religious and architectural heritage of the Gironde, now integrated into national databases such as Mérimée and observatories of religious heritage.
