The church: by order of 11 April 1908
Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Morthemer is a religious building located in the commune of Valdivienne, New Aquitaine. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 11 April 1908, it now belongs to the municipality and constitutes a protected architectural heritage. Its exact location, 1 Chemin de Chez Bibi, is documented in the Merimée and Monumentum bases, with a location deemed satisfactory (note 7/10).
Medieval churches like Our Lady of Morthemer played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for social and religious events. In the Poitou-Charentes, a region marked by a strong Christian tradition, these buildings often reflected the importance of faith in daily organization, while embodying local craftsmanship in construction.
