Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Noumerens, classified as a Historical Monument, presents a characteristic pre-Roman plan, composed of two rectangles connected by a landing. Its walls, built in the medium apparatus, clearly reflect a medieval origin, with the exception of the western facade where the arch of an ancient door remains. This mix of styles reflects an architectural evolution between the 11th and 12th centuries, an initial construction period.
A remarkable element of the building is Romanesque chrism, located above and left of the south gate. This Christian symbol, framed by two circles each containing a six-way star, illustrates the artistic and religious influence of the time. The bell tower, probably added in the 16th century, is distinguished by its triangular shape and its three openings in the middle of the hang, surmounted by a cornice forming larme.
The church was listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 16 April 1975, under the cadastral reference C 332. Owned by the municipality of Auriac-sur-Vendinelle, it embodies a local heritage marked by architectural transformations over centuries.
