Origin and history
The Church of Notre-Dame de Regnéville-sur-Mer is a Catholic building located in the town of Regnéville-sur-Mer, in the Manche department, Normandy. Built in the middle of the 13th century, it presents a simple rectangular plan, typical of the religious architecture of this period. His choir, initially un vaulted, was modified in the 19th century to incorporate a vault. The tower, dated from the second half of the 13th century, is distinguished by its ogival windows and its octagonal arrow in truncated stone, inspired by the Coutances models. It is surmounted by four bell towers of angles, outstanding architectural elements for the period.
The church bell tower was classified as Historic Monuments by order of 14 May 1937, thereby recognizing its heritage value. This partial classification specifically protects the tower, while the rest of the building has a partial inscription. The church also houses classified furniture, including a high relief of the 15th century Passion and a Virgin with the Child called Virgin with the 14th century Rose, testimonies of the artistic and religious richness of the place.
Located near the ruins of a medieval castle (100 meters northeast), the church is situated in a historical context marked by the feudal and religious influence of the region. Its architecture, though modest, reflects stylistic evolutions between the Middle Ages and modern restorations. The truncated arrow and bell towers recall in particular the achievements of the Cathedral of Coutances, highlighting the artistic links between these Norman buildings.
