Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Rochecorbon, located in the Indre-et-Loire department, is a historical monument dating back to the 11th century. The nave, the oldest element, dates from this period, while the choir, the bell tower and the abside were built in the 12th century. These additions reflect the architectural evolution of the period, marking the transition between the Romanesque and Gothic styles. The entrance gate, typical of the twelfth century, bears witness to the artistic influence of this period.
In the 15th century, the church was enriched with side chapels, illustrating the liturgical and devolutional needs of an expanding community. The interior walls are decorated with modern wall paintings by painter Lobin, adding a later artistic touch. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 26 January 1923, the church today belongs to the commune of Rochecorbon. Its state of conservation and location, noted 8/10 for its accuracy, make it an accessible and remarkable heritage.
The building thus embodies almost ten centuries of religious and artistic history, from its medieval foundations to its recent embellishments. The protected elements, including the entire building, underline its heritage importance. The exact address, 11 Rue de l'Eglise, allows visitors to discover this jewel of the Centre-Val de Loire, opened according to the modalities defined by the municipality.
