Origin and history
The Church of Notre-Dame de Tannières, located in the department of Aisne in the Hauts-de-France region, is a religious building whose oldest parts date back to the thirteenth century. The choir, vaulted with warheads and built of cut stone, as well as the cross of the transept in third points, are the remains of this medieval period. These elements contrast with the nave, lower and capped, rebuilt in the last quarter of the 16th century, probably as a result of the unrest associated with the religious wars that marked the region.
The parish of Tannières was erected in 1246, shortly after the initial construction of the church. Under the Ancien Régime, she was dependent on the diocese of Soissons, with a cure presented by the chapter of Notre-Dame-des-Vignes Abbey, which also received one third of the tithes. The lower sides and the bell tower arrow were destroyed in 1793 during the French Revolution. The building was further damaged in 1918 during the German retreat, particularly in terms of blankets. Restorations were undertaken between 1922 and 1923 under the direction of architects Robert Chaleil and Lucien Sallez, the latter representing the Historic Monuments.
Ranked a historical monument by decree of 22 July 1921, the church illustrates the architectural transformations and historical vicissitudes of Picardia. His 13th century choir, marked by arches in third points and traces of the old arms of the transept, bears witness to its past importance. Today, the building remains owned by the municipality of Tannières and retains a major heritage value, linked to its religious and architectural history.
