The church: by order of 28 October 1941

Origin and history

The church Notre-Dame-en-son-Assomption de Chassigny is a religious building located in the commune of Chassigny, Haute-Marne, in the Grand Est region. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it is distinguished by its simple architecture, with a unique nave and a deported square bell tower on the left side of the choir. Its flat bedside is characteristic of some medieval churches in the region.

Classified as a historical monument by decree of 28 October 1941, this church bears witness to the religious and architectural heritage of the Haute-Marne. Today it is owned by the commune of Chassigny. Although available sources do not specify its current use, its protected status underscores its historical and cultural importance.

The building is part of a medieval context where churches played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, thus reflecting the social and religious organization of the time. The region, then marked by agriculture and crafts, saw these buildings as symbols of stability and faith.
