Origin and history
The Church of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Mathurin de La Mailleraye-sur-Seine is a Catholic building built in the 16th century, located in the former commune of the same name, now integrated in Arelaune-en-Seine. It is distinguished by an architecture combining two styles: the nave and the flamboyant Gothic, while the choir adopts a Renaissance style. The building, made of limestone, is dedicated to Notre-Dame and Saint Mathurin, and was listed for historical monuments on November 24, 1926.
The church houses elements of furniture from Jumièges Abbey, showing historical links with this religious institution. In 1963, a canon discovered a 16th-century cache containing four statues, revealing artistic remains of the time. More recently, in 2016, Saint Prosper's relics were found in the building, adding an additional heritage dimension.
The location of the church, at 82 Rue Fouque, reflects its anchoring in the urban fabric of La Mailleraye-sur-Seine, now part of the new commune of Arelaune-en-Seine. Its inscription as a historical monument and the presence of protected elements underline its cultural and architectural importance in the Normandy region, and more particularly in the Seine-Maritime department.
