Origin and history

Notre-Dame-et-Sainte-Agathe church in Quettreville-sur-Sienne is a Catholic building located in the Manche department in Normandy. Dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, it is distinguished by its simple plan and its octagonal stone steeple, characteristic of the churches of the western facade of the Cotentin. The tower, topped by four corner belltowers, has only one ogival window per face, reflecting local medieval religious architecture.

The church houses remarkable furniture, including an 18th century high altar and 15th century baptismal fonts. A 16th-century bas-relief, representing the Passion and listed as a historic monument in 1908, disappeared in 1935. The building itself has been listed as historic monuments since October 21, 1970, emphasizing its heritage importance.

The location of the church, east of the town of Quettreville-sur-Sienne, and its modest but emblematic architecture bear witness to the religious and artisanal traditions of Cotentin. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments guarantees the preservation of this heritage, while offering an overview of the architectural and cultural evolution of the region between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
