Origin and history

Notre-Dame d'Alfortville Church is a parish church built between 1889 and 1891, thanks to the support of benefactors including Marie-Alexandrine-Adèle Roland-Gosselin. Inaugurated on 25 March 1892, it embodies the religious architecture of the late 19th century with its neo-Gothic stained glass windows and organ, work of the Cavaillé-Coll manufacture.

In August 1932, a fire ravaged the building, requiring restoration started in 1933. The organ, damaged during the disaster, was restored in 1984 with the help of the municipality. It has been included in the additional inventory of historical monuments since 1978, while the church itself has been listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage since 1996.

A major renovation of the church façade was completed in August 2016. The big organs, with 22 games, are the most important in Val-de-Marne after those of the conservatory of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. Several renowned organists, such as Loïc Martine, Guillaume Brioude, Pierre Kobel and Paule Létaud, succeeded each other, contributing to its cultural influence.
