Origin and history

The parish church of Saint-Étienne-et-Saint-Blaise, located at the Monastery in Aveyron (Occitanie), is the result of several construction campaigns conducted at the end of the 12th century, during the second half of the 13th century, then in the 14th and 19th centuries. It consists of two naves with flat bedsides, reflecting these different architectural phases. A defensive system, including a tower tower and a parapet protecting a round path, was added from the 14th century onwards, illustrating the security concerns of the time.

The building is home to notable heritage features, including a golden wooden frame dedicated to Sainte-Tarcisse. These objects, combined with hybrid architecture, bear witness to the religious and artistic evolution of the region. The church, classified as a Historic Monument in 2014, is now owned by the municipality and retains a parish function, while embodying the central role of churches in medieval and modern community life.

The work of the twentieth century, although less documented in the sources, probably aimed to preserve or restore this multi-series heritage. The location of the church, in the heart of the village (4 Church Square), reinforces its territorial anchor and symbolic importance for the inhabitants of the Monastery and the surrounding area.
