Origin and history

The parish church of Saint Eutrope was built in 1540 in Méounes-lès-Montrieux by the mason Honoré Matthieu. Its bell tower, erected between 1553 and 1561, requires reconstruction as early as 1614 because of its degraded state. The works, led by master mason Pierre Castillon, were completed in 1620, while the church, damaged by floods, was repaired in 1618. The demographic boom in the 17th century led to its expansion: the choir was extended and two sides (East and West) were added, with an end to the work in 1681.

In 1709, a presbytery replaced the ancient cemetery east of the church. In 1791, the community decided to install a clock in the bell tower, which was raised in 1792 by master masons Louis Garnier and Joseph Cary. The latter is crowned with a neoclassical monoptère temple, composed of eight columns and housing a small bell. In the 19th century, a sacristy was built west of the choir, extending the western side.

The church, with its bell tower, is fully protected by a registration order under the Historical Monuments on 14 December 2022. This monument illustrates the successive architectural adaptations related to the liturgical and demographic needs of the parish, as well as stylistic influences throughout the centuries, from late Gothic to neoclassical.
