Origin and history
The church of Genicourt, probably built in the 12th century, underwent major changes in the 16th century, including the addition of a southern portal. This portal, the only remaining vestige, bears witness to the work carried out at that time. The state of the building's advanced degradation in the 19th century led to its destruction in 1905, with the exception of this historic portal.
A new church was rebuilt on the same site after the demolition. The remains of the portal, recognized for their heritage value, were protected by a classification under the Historic Monuments on March 4, 1944. Today, these remains are reminiscent of the medieval and modern history of Genicourt, in Val-d'Oise.
The precise location of the monument, located 1 Rue des Fossettes in Genicourt, is documented in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 95271. The gate, a protected element, illustrates the religious architecture of the twelfth and sixteenth centuries, typical of the Île-de-France region.
