Church (Cd. A 68): entry by order of 13 November 1985

Origin and history

The Saint-Amand church of Burcy, located in the village of the same name in Île-de-France, was built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It has a typical architecture of this period, with a unique nave with two arched bays and a flat bedside. The bell tower, squared and covered with a roof in a building, stands north of the building. Inside, furniture dates mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries, adding an additional historical and artistic dimension.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the church was in a state of advanced degradation, requiring a first safeguard campaign from 1932. Since 1983, restoration work has been undertaken to preserve buildings, roofs and furniture. In 1997, contemporary stained glass windows, designed by Jean-Michel Folon, were installed, marking a fusion between ancient heritage and modern creation. The building, registered with the Historical Monuments since 1985, is now the property of the municipality.

The location of the church, although documented (Grande-Rue in Burcy, Seine-et-Marne), is considered to have poor accuracy (level 5 of 10). This monument illustrates the architectural and cultural evolution of the region, while at the same time showing continued efforts for its preservation and enhancement.
