Origin and history

The Saint-Amand church of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye is a Catholic religious building located in the Nièvre department, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Built in the 13th century, it embodies the medieval architecture of the region, with elements added or modified in the 16th century, notably in the chapel of the Virgin. The latter houses a fresco wall painting, enriched with oil touches, probably made during the construction of a nearby castle at the beginning of the Renaissance.

Classified as a historical monument since 15 August 1975 (official decree of 27 August 1975), the church is now owned by the commune. Its heritage interest lies as much in its original structure as in its interior decorations, reflecting artistic developments between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The precise location, noted in the Merimée base, confirms its anchoring in the historic village, near the rue de Bourgogne.

The site is referenced in the heritage bases (Merimée, Clochers de France) and open to the visit, although the sources do not specify the current access modalities. Its classification covers the entire building (Cadastre D 632), stressing its importance for local and regional heritage. The photographs available, under Creative Commons license, document its contemporary state, while GPS coordinates place the monument at the heart of the village, with an accuracy deemed satisfactory a priori (level 6/10).
