Origin and history
The church Saint-André de Saint-André-de-Boëge is a Catholic religious building located in the Haute-Savoie department. A first church, attested as early as the 12th century, probably occupied the same location, although little information remains about its form or history. This primitive place of worship bears witness to an ancient religious occupation in this Savoyard region, marked by a Christian tradition firmly rooted since the Middle Ages.
Between 1855 and 1858, the present church was built in a neoclassical Sardinian style, characteristic of the architectural influence of the Kingdom of Sardinia, then sovereign over Savoy. This style is distinguished by clean lines, rigorous symmetry and elements inspired by antiquity, reflecting 19th century European artistic trends. The building probably replaced the old medieval church, meeting the needs of a growing community or modernization imperatives.
In 1987, Saint Andrew's church underwent a complete renovation, including restoration of interior paintings. This intervention aimed to preserve the local heritage while adapting the building to contemporary liturgical and aesthetic requirements. The 1987 work marks an important milestone in the recent history of the monument, highlighting its continued role as a place of worship and assembly for the local population.
