Origin and history

The church Saint-Aubin de La Pellerine, located in the Maine-et-Loire department in the Pays de la Loire region, is a religious building whose origins date back to the second half of the 11th century. It is associated with the foundation of a priory, of which it preserves architectural elements such as the rectangular nave and the choir in hemicycle, characteristic of Roman art. The nave, finished with an arcade in the middle of the hanger, and the narrow choir, vaulted in cul-de-four, testify of this medieval period.

Over the centuries, the church has undergone several changes. The vault of the right span of the choir dates from the 15th century, while the chorus bays were walled or pierced in the 18th century. More recent changes at the beginning of the 19th century concerned the nave bays, the door and the west gable. The current bell tower, an arrow cage type, was built in the 19th century and rests on the span of the choir.

The building was listed as historic monuments by order of 4 July 2006, thereby recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the commune of La Pellerine, the church is distinguished by its mixture of Romanesque elements and later additions, reflecting its architectural evolution over nearly a millennium. Its official address, Place de l'Église, and its Insee code (49237) place it precisely in the Angelvin territory.
