Origin and history

The church Saint-Barthélemy de Boutigny-sur-Essonne is a Catholic religious building dedicated to Saint Barthélemy, located in the Essonne department in Île-de-France. Dating mainly from the 12th century for its original structure, it was partially rebuilt in the 14th century for its nave. The building has undergone significant restorations in the 19th and 20th centuries, reflecting a desire for the continued preservation of this local heritage.

The church houses a remarkable furniture heritage, including polychrome statues dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. These artistic elements, typical of the religious devolution of the time, reinforce its historical and cultural interest. Since 1925, the building has been protected as historic monuments by a registration order, recognizing its heritage value.

The Foundation for the Protection of French Art played an active role in the conservation of the monument by granting two grants in 1988 and 1989. This funding allowed for major work, ensuring the building's sustainability. Today, the church remains a symbol of the religious and architectural heritage of the region, open to visit and anchored in local life.
