Church (Cad. AB 39): Order of 11 June 1964

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Bénigne de Damblain is a religious building whose construction spans centuries, mainly in the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries. Located in the village of Damblain, in the department of Vosges (Great East region), it embodies the religious architecture of these periods, potentially mixing Gothic and classical elements. The monument has been classified as Historic Monuments since 1964, reflecting its heritage value and the need for its preservation.

Parish churches like Saint-Bénigne played a central role in the life of rural communities in the East. In the Middle Ages and modern times, they served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for collective decisions, local festivals and important events in the lives of the inhabitants. Their construction and maintenance often reflected the economic and social importance of the village, as well as regional or external artistic influences.

In the Vosges, these buildings were frequently redesigned over the centuries, according to liturgical needs, damage suffered (war, weather) or stylistic evolutions.
