Origin and history

The church of Saint-Blaise de Dimancheville, classified as a Historic Monument, consists of two separate volumes reflecting different construction periods. The choir, dating from the early 13th century, illustrates the religious architecture of this period, while the nave, rebuilt in the late 15th or early 16th century, shows a transition to the late Gothic style. These stylistic juxtapositions highlight the artistic and technical developments that occurred between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

In the 17th century, a sacristy was added against the flat bedside, slightly changing the original structure. Later, the nave was truncated by the installation of an intermediate floor, supported by the sandstones and entered from the old frame. This interior overhaul, although functional, partially altered the original space. Remnants of murals, probably historiated and dating from the late Middle Ages, still remain, offering a rare testimony of the interior decoration of the period.

The western gable, covered with a wooden bell, is a remarkable architectural element. The building, fully protected by an order of 18 August 2005, belongs to the municipality of Sundayville. Its state of conservation and its characteristics make it an example of the rural religious heritage of the Centre-Val de Loire region, marked by both Romanesque and Gothic influences.
