Origin and history

The church of Saint-Blaise de Serqueux, located in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand-Est region, is a religious building whose origins date back to the twelfth century. It underwent major changes in the 14th and 18th centuries, reflecting the architectural and artistic evolutions of these periods. The building, dedicated to Saint Blaise, preserves characteristic elements such as a golden wooden altarpiece, an 18th-century pulpit to preach, and polychrome statues dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

The church houses remarkable liturgical furniture, including a main altar with tabernacle, choir panelling, and several wooden or stone statues representing religious figures. These include an 18th-century sculpted bishop, a group representing Mary's education (17th century), and a Virgin and a Saint Blaise in polychrome stone (16th century). These elements bear witness to the artistic and devout richness of the local community throughout the centuries.

Classified as historical monuments since 9 November 1988, Saint-Blaise Church is now owned by the municipality of Serqueux. Its inscription recognizes the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its furniture, which illustrates the evolution of religious and artistic practices in Champagne-Ardenne. The precise location of the church at 1 Rue de la Cour makes it a central point of interest in the village.

The department of Haute-Marne, where Serqueux is located, is marked by a dense religious heritage, reflecting the historical importance of the Church in the social and cultural organization of the region.
