Saint-Bonnet parish church (cad. A 1028): inscription by decree of 10 September 1990
Origin and history
The church of Saint-Bonnet de Paslières is a Romanesque building located in Puy-de-Dôme, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Composed of a central vessel and two sides of four spans, it is extended by arched apsidioles in cul-de-four. Its construction dates back to the 12th or 13th century, with major additions in the 15th and 19th centuries, including a wooden porch now extinct and a rebuilt bell tower.
The porch, erected in the 15th century, was destroyed in the late 19th century, when the bell tower was completely rebuilt. This church is recognized as the oldest parish church in the canton. It was registered as a Historical Monument by order of 10 September 1990, and today belongs to the commune of Paslières.
The building illustrates the architectural and religious evolution of the region, combining primitive Romanesque elements with later modifications. Its central role in the local parish life, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary era, makes it a valuable testimony of the Auvergnat rural heritage.
