Origin and history
The church Saint-Brice de Basse-Goulaine is a Catholic religious building located in the Loire-Atlantique department in the Pays de la Loire region. It is located in the heart of the village, replacing a first church built in the 13th century. The present building, built in 1878, was erected in the immediate vicinity of the old church, demolished in 1881. His bell tower was completed only in 1884.
The church houses several objects classified as historical monuments, including an 18th-century polychrome marble and golden wood altar, as well as a statue of the Virgin and Child in stone dating back to the 15th century. Other remarkable elements include silver liturgical objects (calice, patena, censor, ostensoirs) from the 18th and 19th centuries, and two seventeenth century paintings: Communion of the Apostles and Saint Luke.
These objects bear witness to the artistic and religious richness of the building, while illustrating its architectural evolution and its central role in local community life. The church, through its history and its movable heritage, reflects the transformations of the village and its religious practices throughout the centuries.
