Origin and history

The Church of Saint-Clair de Mutrécy is a Catholic religious building located in the municipality of Mutrécy, Calvados, Normandy. Its initial construction dates back to the 11th century, making it an architectural testimony of this medieval period. The church is dedicated to Saint Clair and Saint Honorine, and its existence is attested before 1049, according to historical records.

The northern gate of the church is particularly remarkable, since it was classified as historical monuments by decree of 22 October 1913. This classification underscores the heritage value of this architectural element. The building underwent later modifications, including the reconstruction of the western façade and the bell tower in the 18th century, as well as the addition of ogival-style bays in the mid-19th century.

The church of Saint-Clair de Mutrécy is now owned by the municipality. It also retains a sundial, adding to its historical and architectural interest. Its precise location is at 10 Rue de l'Église, in the village of Mutrécy, and it is referenced in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 14461, attached to the ancient diocese of Bayeux.
