Origin and history
Saint-Claude de Malbuisson Church is a religious building built in 1932 on the shores of Lake Saint-Point, also known as Lake Malbuisson. It replaces a primitive chapel erected in 1618, itself built on the foundations of an old chapel dated 1705. This place of worship, located in the Haut-Doubs, thus embodies centuries of local religious history, mixing architectural heritage and devotion to Saint Claude de Besançon, emblematic bishop of the region.
The church houses remarkable furniture, including four copper altar candlesticks, classified as objects with historical monuments since 10 May 1928. These elements testify to the artistic and liturgical richness of the place, while emphasizing its heritage importance. The construction of 1932 marks a key step in the evolution of the site, combining tradition and modernity to serve the local community.
Integrated with the lakescape of Malbuisson, the Saint-Claude church is part of a preserved natural setting, reinforcing its spiritual and tourist appeal. Its history reflects the architectural and cultural transformations of Franche-Comté, while honouring the memory of Claude de Besançon, a major figure in regional Christianity.
