Church: Order of 21 September 1907
Origin and history
The Saint-Cybard church of Magnac-sur-Touvre is a 12th century Romanesque building, classified as a Historical Monument by order of 21 September 1907. It is singularized by its Greek cross plan, where the four arms are equal in length, but with an excreted dome. The apses of the transept form a square, and the bell tower overcomes the dome, a rare architectural arrangement for the era.
The structure of the church, with its symmetrical arms and its offset dome, reflects an original adaptation of the Romanesque canons. The 1907 classification underscores its heritage value, while its location in Magnac-sur-Touvre (Charente) makes it a testimony of medieval religious art in Poitou-Charentes, now integrated into the New Aquitaine region. The building belongs to the municipality and remains an emblematic place of local heritage.
Available sources, such as Monumentum, specify that the church is open to visit, although its current use (cult, cultural events) is not detailed. Its exact address, 3 Place de l'Église, and its Insee code (16199) confirm its anchoring in the Charente territory, marked by a rich religious and architectural history since the Middle Ages.
