Origin and history
The Saint-Demet church of Plozévet, classified as a Historical Monument, presents a Latin cross structure with a rectangular choir, a transept and a nave bordered by a low side. The nave, the oldest part, dates from the 12th century, while the rest of the building, with the exception of the bell tower, dates back to the beginning of the 16th century. A diaphragm arch separates the nave, composed of five arcades, from the transept. The south porch, covered with stone dogive vaults, is dated 1695, and the sacristy of 1701. The bell tower, rebuilt around 1700, retains an arrow in Gothic style.
The monument incorporates a variety of elements, including a prehistoric menhir, 13th century arcades, and a north side of the late 14th century. The transept and choir date back to the 16th century, while a bell tower was added in 1793. A fountain and a calvary, probably from the 16th century, complete this architectural ensemble. The church, owned by the commune, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 4 August 1951.
The location of the building, at Plozevet in Finistère, is approximate, with a map accuracy considered fair (note 5/10). The exact address, 11 Rue d'Audierne, comes from GPS coordinates. The church, still visible today, bears witness to the architectural and religious evolutions of Brittany between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
