Origin and history

The Saint-Denis church of Ouzouer-sous-Bellegarde is a listed historical monument, characterized by a distinct two-nave architecture. The upper nave, dated from the 13th century, is distinguished by its double and diagonal arches resting on square pilasters with chamfered edges, a rare feature for the period. The vaults, in masonry of coated bellows, contrast with the hard stone elements of doubles and formets, reflecting medieval constructive techniques.

The low nave, added in the 15th century, completes the building with a more sober but equally remarkable structure. All bearing elements (double, diagonal, formets) are executed in hard stone, reflecting a desire for durability and stylistic unity. The square bedside, typical of the rural churches of the region, and the absence of columns for pilasters underline the adaptation of builders to the local resources and liturgical needs of the community.

Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 6 March 1928, the church today belongs to the commune of Ouzouer-sous-Bellegarde. Its state of conservation and its precise location (9 Rue des Vignes) make it an accessible heritage, although the practical information on visits remains partially documented. The Creative Commons license associated with the photographs of the monument facilitates its dissemination and cultural enhancement.
