Origin and history
Saint-Denis de Moigny-sur-École is a Catholic parish church dedicated to Saint Denis, located in the Essonne department. Built mainly in the 13th and 14th centuries, it was rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries, with much of the building dating from the 16th century. Since 1926, it has been listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage importance.
In 1986, murals dating from the 15th or 16th century were discovered revealing hidden artistic elements. Between 2001 and 2013, the building underwent major restoration, including the addition of three new stained glass windows at the beginning of the 21st century. The 19th century stained glass windows, representing scenes of the gospel, complete this architectural and artistic ensemble.
The church is located at 70 Grande Rue in Moigny-sur-École, in the Essonne department (91), in the Île-de-France region. It belongs to the municipality and is open to visit. Its architecture and history reflect the stylistic and religious evolutions of the region throughout the centuries.
