Origin and history
The parish enclosures of Lannedern, located in the Finistère in Brittany, is distinguished by the architectural quality of its elements, including the Saint-Edern church. Ranked a historical monument by decree of 2 April 1915, it embodies Breton religious art of the 16th and 17th centuries. The building, with three naves and covered with wooden vaults, houses stained glass windows and the tomb of Saint-Edern, whose life is narrated in bas-relief in the ossuary.
Among the treasures of the church, a silver procession cross, made in 1620 by François Lapus, bears the arms of the family of Legormel. Ranked as a historical monument in 1898, this cross underwent a partial flight in 1972. The writer Anatole Le Braz highlighted the richness of this heritage during his visits, testifying to its cultural and historical importance.
The enclosure also includes a calvary and an ossuary, all protected by the 1915 classification. These elements illustrate Breton funeral and religious art, while reflecting the local devotion to Saint-Edern, the central figure of the parish. The roof of the bedside and a stained glass window representing the Virgin with the Child and St.Barbe date from the construction period, strengthening the heritage value of the site.
