Origin and history
The church of Saint-Éloi de Passy-sur-Marne is a religious building located in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, it embodies the medieval religious architecture of historical Picardie, now integrated into the Hauts-de-France. Its classification as historical monuments in 1922 reflects its heritage value recognized by the French authorities.
The monument is part of the rural landscape of Passy-sur-Marne, a commune whose code Insee 02595 confirms that it belongs to the district of Laon. Like most medieval churches, it served as a central place of worship for the local community, while playing a major social and cultural role. These buildings were often the heart of the villages, hosting gatherings, religious festivals and major events of collective life.
Ranked by ministerial decree on August 5, 1922, Saint-Éloi Church is now owned by the commune of Passy-sur-Marne. Its official address, 2 Place de la Gironde, and GPS location confirm its anchoring in the local urban fabric. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) document its protected status and importance in the religious heritage of Aisne.
