The entire church (Box C 62): inscription by decree of 10 January 2008
Origin and history
The church of Saint-Étienne de Biarotte is a religious building located in the commune of Biarrotte, in the Landes department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Dating from the twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, it bears witness to the medieval religious architecture of this region of southwestern France. Its inscription in historical monuments in 2008 underscores its heritage importance and the need to preserve its architectural and cultural heritage.
In medieval times, churches like Saint-Étienne de Biarotte played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, marking the social and religious rhythms of local life. In the Landes, which was then marked by agricultural and pastoral activities, these buildings were often structural landmarks in a landscape dominated by forests and wetlands.
