Origin and history
The church Saint-Étienne du Pont-Chrétien-Chabenet is a Catholic religious building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Indre, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Built in the 15th century, it is part of the landscape of Boischaut Sud, a natural region marked by medieval religious architecture. The building is part of the archdiocese of Bourges and is part of the dean of Val de Creuse, as well as the parish of Argenton-sur-Creuse.
The church was partially protected as historical monuments by an order of 11 May 1932, specifically concerning its side gate. This classification reflects its heritage significance, although available sources do not specify the exact reasons for this protection. The building belongs to the commune and remains an active place of worship, integrated into the network of Catholic churches in the region.
The architectural descriptions available mention the presence of modillons, decorative elements typical of medieval churches. However, details of its style or structural peculiarities remain limited in the sources consulted. The church is located at 1 Way of Careers, in an area whose geographical accuracy is estimated to be poor (level 5 out of 10).
