Origin and history

The church of Saint-Front de Bruc, located at Bruc in Grignols (Dordogne), is a religious building mixing Romanesque and Gothic styles. Built in the 15th century, it is distinguished by its square bell tower in Romanesque style, dominating a broken arched porch. The choir, lower than the nave, is vaulted with warhead crosses and ends with a flat bedside. The windows, typical of the flamboyant Gothic, as well as the carved vault keys, bear witness to its architectural heritage.

The church was historically dependent on Grignols' chestnut, one of the ten local parishes as early as the 14th century. Oriented east-west according to the Christian tradition, it is placed under the patronage of Saint Front, legendary evangelizer of the Périgord. Its furniture includes an 18th-century carved wooden tabernacle, classified as a historical monument in 1975. The building itself was included in the inventory of historical monuments on October 12, 1948.

The appentis located to the right of the entrance replaces an old chapel that has disappeared. Architectural changes, such as the windows of the 15th century, reflect the stylistic evolutions of the time. Today, the church belongs to the commune of Grignols and remains a testimony of the religious and social history of the region, between Landais and Périgord.
