Church: Order of 18 December 1919
Origin and history
The church Saint-Georges-et-Saint-Quirin is a religious building located in the commune of Presles-et-Thierny, in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. Built in the twelfth century, it is a typical example of the medieval religious architecture of this period. Its classification as historic monuments in 1919 reflects its heritage importance and preservation for future generations.
The location of the church, in the heart of the village of Presles-et-Thierny, suggests a central role in medieval community life. At that time, churches served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants, playing a social, political and spiritual role. In rural areas such as Aisne, these buildings were often the only stone buildings, symbolizing stability and permanence in a context where most buildings were made of perishable materials.
The classification of the church in 1919 by the Historical Monuments allowed to protect its architecture and its characteristic elements of the 12th century. This status also reflects the interest in the conservation of the religious and architectural heritage of Picardia, now integrated into Hauts-de-France. Available sources, such as the Merimée base and local observations, confirm its membership in the region's cultural and historical heritage.
