Origin and history

The church Saint-Gildas de Laniscat is a religious building located in the municipality of Bon Repos sur Blavet, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, Brittany. Its bell tower, dated from the seventeenth century, is a square tower crowned by an openwork lantern, characteristic of the Breton religious architecture of that time. The entire church, with the exception of the already classified bell tower, was listed as historical monuments in 1925.

The bell tower was specifically protected as early as 1921 by a classification order for historical monuments. According to available sources, the last spans to the east date from the first half of the sixteenth century, while the bedside was built in 1667 under the rectorate of Michaël Durandus. The south and north coasts, as well as the porch, were added in 1691, and the west porch tower was erected between 1725 and 1751.

The church of St.Gildas thus illustrates several periods of construction, ranging from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, with a major concentration of architectural elements dated from the seventeenth century. It belongs to the municipality and remains an important testimony of the religious heritage of Breton, marked by various stylistic influences depending on the times of its construction.
