Origin and history
The church Saint-Gilles de Clenleu is a religious building built between the 15th and 16th centuries, located in the commune of Clenleu, in the department of Pas-de-Calais. This monument, classified by decree of 18 February 1930, is a representative example of the religious architecture of this period in the region. Today it belongs to the municipality and remains an emblematic place of local heritage.
The location of the church, at 2 Rue de l'Hôtel-Dieu in Clenleu, is documented with an accuracy deemed satisfactory (level 7/10). Although available sources, such as Monumentum, do not provide comprehensive details of its history, its ranking as Historic Monument underscores its cultural and architectural importance. The Hauts-de-France region, to which Clenleu belongs, was at that time marked by a rural and artisanal life, where churches played a central role in community life, both spiritually and socially.
