Origin and history

The church Saint-Gilles de Saint-Gilles-les-Bois, located in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany, is a building whose current structure is the result of two major periods. The oldest elements, dated from the 15th century, include the batteries and arches of the nave, as well as the entrance door under the porch. This porch is distinguished by two third-point arcades decorated with redents, characteristic of the late Gothic architecture of this period.

In the 17th century, the church underwent partial reconstruction while preserving pre-existing medieval structures. This intervention probably aimed to modernize or adapt the building to the liturgical or aesthetic needs of the Baroque era. The bell tower, an emblematic element of the church, was partially protected as historical monuments by a decree of 6 March 1925, highlighting its heritage importance.

The building is located precisely at Le Bourg, on the commune of Saint-Gilles-les-Bois, and its approximate address is 4 Rue Tugdual de Kermoysan. Although the accuracy of its location is considered poor (level 5 out of 10), the church remains a historical and cultural landmark for the municipality. It belongs to the municipality and its bell tower, registered in the inventory, bears witness to the architectural evolution between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
