Église Saint-Hubert : classification by decree of 19 April 1896

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Hubert de Gandrange is a religious building built in the 15th century. Located in the commune of Gandrange, Moselle (Department 57), it has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1896. Its architecture and history are representative of the medieval churches of the Lorraine region, now integrated into the Great East.

The classification of the church by decree of 19 April 1896 bears witness to its heritage importance. Although the sources mention possible confusion with a church of the 20th century, official data (Monumentum, Merimée database) confirm its medieval dating. Owned by the commune, it remains an emblematic place of Ghentrange, despite a GPS location considered not precise (level 5/10).

At the time of its construction, parish churches like Saint-Hubert played a central role in the life of the Lorrain villages. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for community decisions and local holidays. The region, then marked by a rural and artisanal economy, saw these buildings as symbols of stability and collective faith.
