Church: Order of 20 February 1933
Origin and history
Saint-Jacques-et-Saint-Philippe Church is a church located in Lentilles, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. It is distinguished by its wooden structure, typical of certain religious constructions in the region of the Pays du Der. This type of architecture, rare for a church, bears witness to local construction techniques in the 16th century, when the building was erected.
The church was classified as historical monuments on February 20, 1933, recognizing its heritage and architectural value. This classification protects and preserves this emblematic building, which is now owned by the municipality of Lentilles. Its precise location is indicated as being at 3 Rue du Jaron, in the same municipality.
In the 16th century, wooded churches were often at the heart of community life in rural areas. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants. In the Der Country, this period was marked by a mainly agricultural economy, where wood construction reflected available resources and local know-how. These buildings played a central role in the social and religious organization of the villages.
